Can mewing exercises correct my jaw?

In adults whose growth has finished, mewing cannot change the shape of the jawbone. Resting the tongue against the palate is itself the correct tongue position, and it is thought to have a positive influence on jaw and facial development in growing children. In adults, however, the jawbone has already taken its final form, so an exercise alone cannot be expected to produce orthodontic change, and the method is not sufficiently proven medically. If a malocclusion or jaw asymmetry concerns you, we recommend starting with an accurate diagnosis of whether 1) orthodontic treatment or 2) a surgical approach such as double-jaw surgery is needed for a skeletal problem.
