Periodontal

Should gum treatment be repeated periodically like scaling?

Yes, periodic supportive periodontal therapy (SPT) is needed after gum treatment. Periodontitis is not a disease that ends with a single course of treatment but one you manage continuously, because if bacteria build up again after treatment, loss of the supporting bone recurs. Depending on the state of your gums we recommend visits 1) every 3 months for advanced periodontitis and 2) every 6 months for relatively stable gums. Scaling and gum treatment received because of gum disease are covered by the National Health Insurance with no limit on the number of times, even if you need treatment several times within a year.
