My tooth still hurts after root canal treatment. Has something gone wrong?

Throbbing for a few days after root canal treatment is a normal part of healing. The nerve has been removed, but the tissue at the root tip takes time to settle, and it usually eases within 1 to 2 weeks. Discomfort when chewing can last longer than that. However, if the pain keeps getting worse, or your gum swells and it continues beyond 2 weeks, there may be inflammation at the root tip or infection in an additional canal, so please come in to have it checked.
