I had a bad reaction to anesthesia in the past. Is there another way?

Yes, there are alternatives. First, tell us what you experienced - palpitations, dizziness, hives and so on - so we can narrow down the cause. Palpitations after anesthesia are more often a response to the vasoconstrictor (epinephrine) in the anesthetic than an allergy, so we can switch to an anesthetic with no or little vasoconstrictor. If a drug allergy is suspected, we can use an anesthetic with different ingredients or, if needed, recommend allergy testing first. However, if you have ever had a severe reaction such as difficulty breathing or hives over your whole body, you must tell us before treatment.
