Does applying Albothyl heal a canker sore? It was extremely painful.
Albothyl is an acidic medication that works by chemically cauterizing and removing inflamed tissue, so it is very painful at the moment of application but can shorten recovery in some cases. If the pain is too much, there are gentler alternatives: 1) steroid ointments such as Oramedy or Peridex, 2) anti-inflammatory rinses, and 3) adhesive patches for mouth sores. An ordinary canker sore heals on its own within 1 to 2 weeks. However, if an ulcer in the same spot does not heal within 3 weeks or keeps growing, it needs to be distinguished from other conditions, so please come in.
