Denture
Can I chew things like radish kimchi or short ribs with dentures? How should I eat?
Hard, chewy foods such as radish kimchi or short ribs can be eaten if you cut them small and chew on both back sides, but you should avoid forcing down whole pieces. A denture delivers only about 20 to 30% of the chewing force of natural teeth, and it can also come loose. For eating: 1) start with soft foods for the first 2 to 4 weeks and build up in stages, 2) cut food into small pieces and chew evenly on both sides, and 3) avoid biting food off with the front teeth (biting into radish kimchi, for example), which lifts the denture. However, if a particular area hurts every time you chew, it needs adjustment, so please come in.
