Do I have to use a tongue cleaner? Can I just brush my tongue with a toothbrush?
For cleaning the tongue we recommend a dedicated tongue cleaner. A large share of the compounds that cause bad breath is produced in the coating on the back of the tongue, and toothbrush bristles struggle to scrape debris from between the papillae while also triggering the gag reflex. Use a tongue cleaner 1) once a day, with your morning brushing, 2) sweeping from the back of the tongue toward the front, and 3) three or four times without pressing hard. However, if a thick coating keeps forming or your tongue is sore or burning, something other than dry mouth or ordinary tongue coating may be involved, so please come in to have it checked.
