How are resin and glass ionomer different?

Resin can be matched naturally to the color of the teeth, so it is considered for areas where appearance is important, while glass ionomer (GI) may be selected for areas that are difficult to keep dry, such as below the gumline. Resin requires moisture control for bonding and involves several steps, while the difference between GI and the tooth color may be more noticeable. However, each material has advantages and disadvantages, so the choice is made by considering ① the tooth’s position and color match ② whether the treatment area can be kept dry ③ the condition of the tooth. The treating dentist will advise you on the suitable material after an examination.
