Why is my temporary denture (flipper) so thick and uncomfortable?
A flipper (temporary denture) has to be made thick by design. It is made of a weaker resin than the final denture, so if it were thin it would break easily in use. It is also a temporary device meant to cover the gap and keep the teeth from moving until the final restoration, so a perfect fit is not the goal. Most people adapt to the speech and the bulk within about 1 to 2 weeks. However, if it causes pain or presses hard enough to make the gum sore, we can adjust it, so please come in.
