Is it better to rinse with water after brushing?
It is better to rinse just once lightly, or simply spit out the foam. Rinsing repeatedly washes away the fluoride in your toothpaste and reduces its cavity-preventing effect. The longer fluoride stays on the tooth surface, the more it helps strengthen the enamel. It is even better to avoid food and drink other than water for about 30 minutes after brushing. However, if too little rinsing leaves your mouth uncomfortable, or in special situations such as being treated for mouth sores, you do not need to force it.
