Wisdom Tooth

I cannot open my mouth properly after a wisdom tooth extraction.

Difficulty opening the mouth (trismus) after a wisdom tooth extraction is a common and normal reaction. It happens as the muscles and tissue around the extraction site swell and temporarily stiffen, and it usually eases gradually over 1 to 2 weeks. Recovery is helped by 1) warm compresses from day 3 after the extraction, 2) gentle mouth-opening exercises within a comfortable range, and 3) a diet of soft foods. However, if there is no improvement after 2 weeks or the pain and swelling get worse, inflammation is possible, so please come in.
