Cavity

Can I have a cavity treated during pregnancy?

Yes, you can have cavities treated during pregnancy, and the most stable time is the second trimester (weeks 14 to 27). Local anesthesia and dental radiography with a lead apron are generally regarded as safe for mother and baby, and enduring pain and inflammation can actually be the greater burden. However, during the first trimester (months 1 to 3) and the late stage (from month 8) the principle is to limit care to emergency treatment and postpone major work, and where necessary we proceed after consulting your obstetrician.
