Yes, the outlook is relatively good when it is found early. According to Korea's national cancer registry statistics, when oral cancer is found at a localized (early) stage without spread elsewhere, the 5-year relative survival rate is reported at around 80%, whereas survival drops considerably when it is found after it has spread to lymph nodes or other organs. Although oral cancer arises where you can see it directly in a mirror, it is often found late because there is no pain early on. If you have an ulcer, patch, or lump that has not healed in 2 weeks, have it examined right away, and if you smoke or drink, have your oral mucosa checked at your regular dental check-ups.
