My mouth burns and my tongue feels like it is on fire.
If a burning mouth and tongue persist for several months, burning mouth syndrome may be suspected. It is common in menopausal women, and stress, dry mouth, diabetes, iron or vitamin B12 deficiency, and fungal infection can all contribute. If testing identifies an underlying condition, treating that comes first; if no clear cause is found, the symptoms are managed with artificial saliva or medication. However, if a white film or a non-healing ulcer is also present on the tongue, another condition is possible, so you must be examined.
