Is sparkling water bad for the teeth as well?

Even without sugar, sparkling water is acidic (usually pH 3 to 5), so drinking it often or over long periods can cause dental erosion, in which the tooth surface dissolves. Unlike plain water (around pH 7), it turns acidic as carbon dioxide dissolves in it. When you drink it, 1) do not hold it in your mouth or sip it slowly over a long time, 2) rinse your mouth with water afterwards, and 3) wait about 30 minutes before brushing, since brushing right after acid exposure wears the surface down further. However, sparkling water with added citrus flavoring, and carbonated soft drinks, are more acidic still (a lower pH), so they call for extra caution.
