Denture

My new denture is rubbing my gums raw and hurts a lot. Is this normal?

A new denture can press and chafe the gums during the adjustment period, and having it adjusted several times over 1 to 2 months until it fits is a normal part of the process. Much like new shoes rubbing your feet, the discomfort mostly resolves as we trim the sore spots little by little at the clinic. Two things matter: 1) do not leave the denture out because it hurts - wear it for a few hours before your visit so the pressure marks are visible, and 2) never file the denture yourself. However, if the same area keeps becoming raw and bleeding despite adjustments, come back in quickly.
