Can I smoke after getting implants?

After implant surgery, we recommend not smoking for at least 2 weeks, ideally throughout the 2 to 3 months of osseointegration. Nicotine constricts blood vessels and slows healing of the gums and bone, and the sucking motion of smoking itself can dislodge the blood clot at the surgical site and interfere with recovery. Smokers are also known to have a higher risk of peri-implantitis. However, if you have already smoked, please visit us right away if you notice anything unusual at the surgical site, such as pain, swelling, or bleeding.
