I need both implants and orthodontic treatment. Which should come first?

In general, orthodontic treatment comes first to organize the alignment and spacing, and the implant is placed afterward. Once an implant is placed, it does not move like a natural tooth, so placing it before orthodontics can interfere with tooth movement. However, 1) if the implant site is unrelated to the teeth that will be moved, the two can proceed at the same time, and 2) in some cases an implant is even used as an anchor for orthodontic treatment. The order depends on the overall treatment plan, so it is best to have both an orthodontic and a prosthetic diagnosis together before deciding.
