If my gums shrink, do I need to get a new denture?

A denture does not automatically need to be remade just because your gums have receded. As long as the denture body and artificial teeth are otherwise in good shape, a relining procedure that refills the inside to match your gums will let you keep using the same denture. However, we will make a new one when 1) the artificial teeth are heavily worn, 2) the denture itself is cracked, or 3) the gum changes are too severe to be corrected by repair. For insurance-covered dentures, you become eligible for a new one under national health insurance again 7 years after the original was made.
