Precautions

Should I change the gauze every time it bleeds a lot?

Do not change the gauze often - biting firmly on the original piece for about 2 hours is the most reliable way to stop the bleeding. Changing it frequently shifts the point of pressure and can dislodge the clot that has formed, which actually prevents the bleeding from stopping. If blood is still seeping after 2 hours, bite on a fresh piece the same way once or twice more. A little blood mixed with saliva is normal for 1 to 2 days. However, if bright red bleeding continues heavily enough to soak the gauze, please contact the clinic.
