For 1 to 2 weeks after scaling your teeth may feel temporarily sensitive. This is a natural result of the tooth surface being uncovered once tartar is removed, so simply avoid very cold or hot foods for a while. Even if your gums bleed a little, keep brushing as thoroughly as usual - that is what helps the gums settle faster. However, if sensitivity lasts more than a month or one particular tooth is severely sensitive, please come in to have it checked.
