What is oral vestibuloplasty?
Oral vestibuloplasty is a surgery that deepens the space between the inside of the lips and cheeks and the gums, helping make it easier to clean and care for the area around implants or prostheses. When brushing is uncomfortable because the oral vestibule is shallow or because of tension from the lips or cheeks, the need for the procedure is determined by assessing ① the depth of the space ② the amount of firm gum tissue ③ the condition of care around implants or prostheses. However, not everyone with a shallow oral vestibule requires surgery, and the surgical method and whether gum grafting is needed vary depending on the condition. Whether surgery is necessary will be confirmed and explained after examining the gums and the area around the implants. Lip repositioning surgery to improve a gummy smile is also oral vestibuloplasty in a broad sense. However, it is a procedure that makes the oral vestibule shallower, rather than deeper.
