How long should I refrain from smoking before and after implant surgery?

For implant surgery, it is recommended to stop smoking at least 2 weeks before the procedure and to refrain from smoking for 2–3 months after surgery. Smoking can adversely affect the osseointegration process, in which the implant bonds with the bone, as well as wound healing, increasing the risk of failure or complications. Before and after surgery, ① inform us whether you currently smoke and how much you smoke, and ② if quitting is difficult, consult your dentist about the surgical schedule and method. However, not being able to quit smoking does not necessarily mean that surgery is impossible; the appropriate smoking-cessation period for you will be confirmed and explained after your consultation.
