What is the difference between bone grafting and guided bone regeneration?
Bone grafting is a treatment that supplements bone volume by placing bone graft material in areas with insufficient jawbone, whereas guided bone regeneration is a broader treatment method that creates the space and environment for bone to grow. Guided bone regeneration may ① use bone graft material and a barrier membrane together, or ② induce bone formation by maintaining space with a barrier membrane or an implant fixture without bone graft material. However, if the defect area is large or it is difficult to maintain space, the use of bone graft material may be necessary. The necessary method will be explained after confirming the amount of jawbone and the need for space maintenance.
