Can implants last a lifetime?

With good care, implants can last more than 10 years and may serve semi-permanently. But placement is not the end - maintenance determines lifespan: 1) check-ups and scaling every 6 months, 2) thorough brushing and interdental cleaning to prevent peri-implantitis (gum disease around implants), and 3) a protective device if you grind or clench your teeth. Peri-implantitis progresses faster than gum disease around natural teeth and can greatly shorten implant lifespan.
