From what age should children start dental check-ups?
The first dental visit is best around 6 months of age, when the first baby tooth appears, and no later than the first birthday. At that first visit we check the teeth and also go over feeding habits and age-appropriate brushing. The national infant health check-up program includes an oral examination at set ages, which you can receive free of charge. Starting dental visits early helps your child see the dentist as a familiar place rather than a frightening one, which improves cooperation later. However, if you notice a change in tooth color or suspect a cavity before the scheduled check-up, please come in right away.
