Wisdom Tooth

Does it hurt a lot after wisdom tooth extraction?

Once the anesthesia wears off, you will feel some pain, but in most cases it is well controlled with the prescribed pain medication. Pain is usually most intense on day 2-3 and then gradually subsides. If the wisdom tooth was impacted and the gum had to be incised, swelling and pain can last a few days longer. However, if the pain becomes worse 3-5 days after extraction, the socket may have become inflamed (dry socket), and you should come in for a check.
If the pain is not severe and only increased slightly right after switching to a different medication, it may simply be a reaction to the medication, so there is no need to worry too much - just call the clinic to ask.
