What's the difference between gold, zirconia, and PFM crowns?

All three materials have different properties, so the recommendation depends on the tooth's location and purpose. 1) Gold crown — excellent strength and fit, well suited for back teeth, but the metal color is visible. 2) Zirconia crown — tooth-colored with high strength, can be used for both front and back teeth. 3) PFM (porcelain fused to metal) crown — relatively affordable, but the porcelain can chip and the metal edge may show along the gum line. Currently, gold and PFM — the older materials — are being used less and less, while zirconia, whose properties continue to improve and is becoming an all-purpose material, is increasingly used in all areas. After diagnosis, we recommend the most suitable material based on your bite force, esthetic needs, and budget.
