How long do crowns last?
The average lifespan of a crown is about 5 to 10 years. Depending on how well it is maintained, it can last 15 years or more — or even a lifetime — while in other cases it may need to be replaced earlier. What determines the lifespan is not so much the crown itself, but secondary cavities at the margins and the health of the surrounding gums. If you keep the crown margins clean with floss and interdental brushes and come in for checkups every 6 months, you can use it for a long time. However, if the crown feels loose, becomes sensitive, or starts trapping food, please visit us right away.
