Can flying in the middle of dental treatment cause toothache?

Yes, a tooth that is under treatment or has an inflamed nerve can hurt during a flight. Known as aerodontalgia, it happens as gas inside the tooth expands with the pressure change during take-off and landing. It usually settles once the altitude stabilizes, but it is wise to carry a painkiller, and before a long flight we recommend at least having a temporary filling placed. However, if the pain continues after landing, nerve inflammation may be progressing, so please come in.
